De Witt & Co. :: Victorian Calling Cards
Welcome to our "Victorian Calling Cards" department. Although Victorian calling cards could manage their way into our "Vintage Greetings" department, they are well deserving of a department on their own. These little charmers were essential for the early 1900's socialite, and to leave home without several stashed away was akin to leaving your house keys on the kitchen table today. They were, in essence, a personal business card... but with much more charm and panache than a common business card of today. Most Victorian calling cards were made of one elegant graphic (or scrap) attached to the top, while beneath was a simple cardstock, sometimes intricately cut, but always had the bearers name printed on it. Other calling cards were more simple, but still possessing the charm that the double-layer cards had. These were single-leaf, with both an elegant graphic and the name printed on the front. Still another calling card consisted of an attached, miniature envelope to a backing card. Inside the envelope was another card with the bearers name.
With so many types, colors, styles and graphics to choose from, it's very easy to see how these have become a scrap-booker's favorite.
