The New Year postcard of the early 20th century was typically characterized by illustrations of celebration, optimism and above all, good luck. Wishing friends and family a Happy New Year was an essential part of celebrating the holiday, and New Years postcards provided an efficient means of leaving no one off the New Year greetings list. Figures commonly found on New Years postcards were doves and horse shoes, many times decorated by elaborate floral bouquets and heavy embossing.
